About BDS Marine

Hi, I’m Mike Kempton and founder of BDS Marine Services based in Poole,Dorset, offering boat delivery, care and surveying services across the UK.

About me:

My love and passion for boats began in early childhood and when asked why the love for boats so much, I replied, ‘Going on a ship as a child, which was just a big boat to me”.  It was back in 1966, when my family and I emigrated to Australia.  We went on a migrant ship and were referred to as the ‘£10 poms’, whereby parents paid £10 each and children went for free.  This was an epic journey that would not only change ours and thousands of other lives, but also develop Australia into the country it is today.

I was 4 years old and had never seen anything so big that could float!  At the time it wasn’t considered a very big ship (a tadge under 500 feet) and compared to some ships of today, it would look like an extra large tug! Nonetheless, to me it was a boat and a very big boat too!  For the following 6 weeks it became my home and I loved it, although my parents didn’t!.

In 1970 however, we returned to England, because my mum was so homesick and low and behold, we came back on the same ship, which I was thrilled about!.  Albeit, I soon learned that this would be her final passenger carrying passage and that after departing from Southampton for the very last time, she would then go on to Thailand to be scrapped.  I was extremely sad about this, because she had been a great old ship that not only played such a significant and poignant part of my life and thousands of others too, but she also served in the second world war.  This grand old lady was (amongst several other previous names in her life), called the ‘Castelle Falice’ and to me she was ‘my boat’.  Following this I loved boats, regardless of type, shape and size, thereafter.

Background:

I have owned several boats over many years and love being on the water. Following  from being a novice, I decided I wanted to work with boats professionally and so went on to complete an RYA off shore qualification and practical boat surveying skills with BH Marine in Weymouth.

Furthermore, in supporting my boat surveying skills, I have qualifications in paint spraying, including cellulose, acrylics, synthetics and 2 pack paint systems, paint technology and preparation, panel beating, welding, fibre glass repairs and extensive mechanical knowledge dating back from 1983 to 2000.  I have also managed two very successful business over a 25 year period and been retained fire fighter with the Dorset Fire Service.

Other Interests & qualifications:

In addition to my boat delivery and surveying service, I operate a private stress management counselling practice and have the following related qualifications: a Masters level diploma in stress & health psychology, a BSc hons health science degree, a level 4 teaching qualification, an advanced diploma in professional stress management and coaching and counselling certificates.  I am also a registered professional member and practitioner for the International stress management association UK (ISMA).

Why choose me:

I’m a mature man in my 50’s, who’s fidelity to clients support and needs are met in every way.  I consider myself to be a very friendly and considerate person, who has excellent communication skills and will go that extra mile for complete customer satisfaction.  Whether it’s providing boat care, surveying, or delivering your boat, I will maintain total professionalism from start to finish.

“Your pride and joy will be in great hands with me”!
